We finally got our Mexico City Trip. We were planning to go for Cathy’s Birthday but after having a pre-birthday Colonoscopy she was ill and we cancelled the trip. It took her 6 weeks to return to near normal. The Colonoscopy (which will be her last) was her birthday gift to me. Wasn’t that sweet? Lesson learned always be the first colonoscopy of the day.

Well 6 weeks later the delayed trip happened. I can’t overstate how messed up LAX is. I can’t believe the disaster it is. We wanted to minimize Cathy’s walking. It turns out you check in at one terminal and then needed to hike over to the International Terminal. Almost all the concourses do NOT have moving walkways. Luckily, I saw one of the golf carts driving by and I flagged him down. He took us to an area that had wheelchairs and wheelchair pushers who then took us to the gate. I guess by not having moving walkways they are giving employment to a fleet of wheelchair pushers. In Japan we used autonomous driving wheelchair, sort of like a Tesla – you just climbed aboard told the wheelchair what gate you wanted to go to and off it went. No wheelchair pushers needed.

Upon arrival we were met by a car from our hotel: Casa Polanco. It is a converted mansion, and it is beautiful. It has been meticulously restored. They had a wonderful Day of the Dead alter in the entryway. The staff can’t do enough for you. It has a hotel policy I have never experienced before. All of the wine and liquor in your room and in the well-stocked library are free! Just enjoy.

On Sunday in Mexico City most restaurants are closed, but we did have 7pm reservations at Entremar a very hip Seafood restaurant. We dined on Softshell Crab, Tuna Tostadas, Shrimp and Octopus. I also had one of the best Margaritas I have ever had. All were great. It was the last day of Day of the Dead and many of the customers were dressed up celebrating.

We returned to the hotel, unpacked and were ready for bed. Tomorrow the first of Two Architectural tours and a chance to explore this  beautiful hotel.
